The lodge is located close to the headquarters of the Volcanoes National Park from where the clients trek on foot to see the magnificent mountain Gorilla. Its Rwanda’s first ever community owned lodge and it was built and is opened by Governor’s camp collection, but the ownership rests with a community Trust, SACOLA that rentals and community fees from the lodge to drive the socio- economic and conservation initiatives in the communities adjacent to the National Park.
The lodge is situated just close to the headquarters of volcanoes National Park from where the clients trek on foot to see the gorillas. It’s located in the foothills of the mighty Virungas, the chain of 15000 ft volcanoes that stretches through Rwanda, Uganda and DRC, Sabyinyo also offers wonderful views of the volcanoes and the near countryside. The guest cottages and the main lodge building have been constructed, the perfect base from which to adventure this unique and fascinating corner of Africa.
Accommodation facilities
The accommodation at Sabyinyo silverback lodge has six cottages, two suites, one family cottages. All are stone buildings with Rwandese terracotta tile roofs, and has large sitting areas, fire places, stylish en suite bath rooms. The family cottage also has two independent ensuite rooms connected by a shared verandah. The main lodge building has a reception, sitting room with snug area, dining room, library/ game room, shops and the bathrooms. There are three large fire places that offer warmth and all the rooms are finished with a polished wooden floor. The two patio areas offer great and dramatic views to the Virunga volcanoes and the surrounding lowland farm land. There are a range of spa treatments which can also be done from the comfort and privacy of your room
The lodge is also adjacent to Volcanoes National park, north western Rwanda, approximately 3 kms from the main entrance to the park, and some 2 hours’ drive on good roads from Kigali. The Main lodge has got large, elegant sitting room with bar and fire place. There is also snug reading area, reception, souvenir shop, and the fire side seating area.
