Where is Nyungwe Forest Park Located?

Nyungwe National Park is almost shared with Burundi in the southwest of Rwanda,  It is home to many wildlife species like chimpanzees, plus owl-faced and colobus monkeys because of the vast mountain rainforest in the national park. The forest has a Canopy Walkway, part of the Igishigishigi Trail. A canopy is a high suspension bridge with views over the valley and surrounding forests. The Igishigishigi trail runs to the Kamiranzovu Marsh, with its birdlife, orchids, and waterfall.

Chimpanzee Trekking

Nyungwe forest has a huge population of chimpanzees. And many tourists or travelers who visit the park always go on a chimpanzee tracking adventure. Unlike gorilla trekking that is done in seasons, chimpanzee tracking is not done in seasons. It is done all year round.

The chimpanzees are not habituated like the gorillas and therefore one is not guaranteed a sighting spot for the chimpanzees.  But the tourists will be able to see the chimpanzees because they are very common and always moving around the forest. The chimps are not settled and orderly like the habituated gorillas are, which makes it an exciting tracking experience. With the help and assistance of the guides, you will, of course, find the chimpanzees in this forest.

Chimpanzee trekking also requires chimpanzee permits which are issued by the Rwanda Development Board, you can contact them, or have your tour operator contact them for you.[/cz_title]
