Bisate Lodge just near volcanoes National Park, combines the bucket list gorilla trek with a pioneering vision of reforestation and community partnership. Bisate is located in the natural Amphitheatre of an eroded volcanic cone, with affected views of the peaks of the Bisate and Karisimbi volcanoes rearing up through afro alpine forests. There are six opulent en suite forest villas maximize comfort and the views while following to environmentally responsible principals and reflecting the rich culture of rural Rwanda. Bisate is within easy driving distance of the park headquarters, from where the gorilla’s treks depart daily. The walks on Bisate’s property offer birding and participation in the reforestation programme. Bisate lodge enjoys a truly dramatic natural setting at the heart of an amphitheatre formed by battered volcano cones. There are six conically shaped thatched forest villas that are tucked into the lush forest setting with very spacious verandas opening out on to magnificent views of the surrounding peaks. The traditional shapes of the suites are a nod to Rwandan culture, while the luxurious interiors maximize comfort and warmth while making the most of the scenic views.
Each 91 square metre villa has a generous yet intimate combination of bed room, reception space and bath room, all warmed by a central fire place and with breath taking views out across your private deck towards Mount Bisoke.
The guest areas feature floor to ceiling windows through which you can marvel at the world outside while enjoying a refreshing drink at the elegant bar or the contemporary wine cellar. You get to fuse local Rwandan flavors with contemporary international cuisine, enjoy wholesome farm to table dishes including wild honey, avocado, climbing beans, kale, papaya, mango, passion fruit, pineapple, macadamia nuts and chilies. Fresh produce is sourced from the onsite Kitchen garden.
The wine cellar in Bisate is spectacular and a great spot for a romantic dinner and sipping on a fine glass of wine. The activities in the area include gorilla tracking, cultural village visits, sightings of the golden monkey, birding and tours to places of interest like lakes Ruhondo and burera, the Musanze caves and the grave of Dian fossey.
