Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at the Airport & drive to Akagera National Park

You are welcomed to the beautiful land of a thousand hills. Our company representative will be at the airport to pick you and transfer you to your hotel or you can also go for the Kigali city tour or transfer to Akagera National Park. The activity you will engage in will depend on the time you arrive. Dinner and overnight at Magashi Camp Meal plan: Full board

Day 2: Explore Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park is a savannah park situated in north eastern Rwanda on the border with Tanzania. Its home to many big mammals not found anywhere else in Rwanda. On a morning game drive after breakfast, we will look out for elephants, zebras, Giraffes, waterbucks, bush bucks, as well as lions. The game drive is Akagera National Park takes place in the northern sector of the park and can last for almost an entire day depending on the animal sightings and your interests. Get back to the lodge for lunch and then take a boat cruise on Lake Ihema for the hippos and crocodiles or decide to spend the afternoon at the lodge enjoying a nature walk as you read a good book. Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

In the morning, depart for Nyungwe Forest in Southern Rwanda with a stopover for lunch in Huye formerly known as Butare. Huye hosts the ethnographic museum of Rwanda that was formerly known as the national museum of Rwanda; here we will get to learn about the culture and history of the Rwanda people. We arrive in Nyungwe Forest Later in the evening. Dinner and overnight at One & only Nyungwe House. Meal Plan: Full board

Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking and Canopy walk

Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park takes you deep to the forest to experience and appreciate nature. Chimpanzee trekking is carried out early morning with packed breakfast or snack, unless you are the kind that can have an early morning breakfast. You are expected to be at the briefing point as early as 5: 30 from where you will receive information on how to behave and possible length of your trek. Nyungwe forest is rich in botanical diversity and its home to 13 species of primates like the L’Hoest’s monkeys, red tailed monkeys, Rwenzori Colobus Monkeys, grey cheeked Mangabeys and the vervet Monkeys. Your ranger guide will lead you to either the Uwinka trail head or the Cyamudongo sector for chimpanzee trekking. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to the Uwinka center to start your canopy walk as you explore the park even more. Dinner and overnight as above. Meal Plan: Full board.

Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Today morning after breakfast, prepare for a transfer to Volcanoes National Park. We get to enjoy the sights of Lake Kivu and winding roads in the land of a thousand hills. Dinner and overnight at Bisate Lodge.

Day 6: Track Mountain Gorillas

Get to wake up so early and have breakfast as you wait to be taken to the headquarters for briefing. You have to request your hotel to give you packed lunch and enough drinking water. The time taken tracking mountain gorilla is unpredictable but we estimate between 2 to 6 hours at most. The activity can be very challenging but the opportunity to see a group of gorillas in the wild is very special indeed. The safety and security of visitors while tracking mountain gorillas is guaranteed as the gorillas are generally calm and peaceful. Get time to take photos of the group as you will be with them for only one hour. You have to remain calm even when they get close to you and follow guidance from your park guide.

After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch as you prepare to visit the community to enjoy their way of life. Later on return to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Bisate Lodge.

Day 7: Explore the shores of Lake Kivu

As you recollect on your experience with the mountain gorillas, we leave for Gisenyi on the shores of Lake Kivu. This will be more of a rest day for you to think through the entire journey as you explore Rwanda on the shores to the beautiful Lake Kivu. The activities you can manage include; a visit to the hot springs, a boat tour to an Island, kayaking on Lake Kivu and relax at the lakeside in the evening sipping away to your favorite. Alternatively, you can spend the day relaxing at your Lodge. Dinner and overnight at Lake Kivu Serena. Meal Plan: Full board.

Day 8: Depart back to Kigali Airport

On this last day, start your day with breakfast and then transfer to the airport for your flight, In case you have some time before your flight, you can have a short Kigali city tour.
