4 Days Rwanda Gorilla Safari: Full Days Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival for the 4 Days Rwanda Safari & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

On your arrival at the airport in Kigali, you will be warmly welcomed by our driver-guide who will after briefing transfer you to the city center of Kigali for your lunch and refreshment. After your lunch, start your gorilla adventure journey driving to Ruhengeri – Volcanoes National Park which is the home of mountain gorillas in Rwanda. Ruhengeri is located approximately 80 km from Kigali.

On your arrival at the park, check-in at the lodge of your choice, have dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

1 Day Gorilla Trek Rwanda

Wake up to a sumptuous hefty breakfast at the lodge and after pack up your essential items necessary for the gorilla trekking adventure to set out for a transfer and arrive at the park headquarters at 7:00 am. You will attend to an insightful briefing about gorilla trekking where you will learn the basics of a successful trekking activity, the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking and how to conduct yourself while in the park. After 4-8 hours of searching the gorillas, you will meet these gentle giants and spend 1 full hour with them as you watch them play, feed, among other things, which is an unforgettable experience. Later after trekking head back to the lodge for a late lunch. Throughout the evening, you can take a walk in the community or choose to stay and unwind at the lodge.

Day 3: Diana Fossey Hike / Golden Monkey Tracking (Optional Activity)

Today you will wake up to a tasty breakfast early in the morning and embark on an insightful hike to Dian Fossey graveyard situated at the former Karisoke Research Center. This is where Dian spent about 20 years studying the Mountain Gorillas. The trek to the site is quite spectacular, as you pass through thick bamboo forest and afro-montane habitats. Expect to see all sorts of wildlife on your way up and down to the graves, nestled between the beautiful volcanic peaks of Karismbi and Bisoke. Alternatively, if you don’t fancy the Dian Fossey hike trail, you may opt for a golden monkey tracking adventure guided by the park ranger.

Day 4: Departure and End of 4 Days Rwanda Gorilla Safari

After a heavy breakfast, check out of the park and transfer to Kigali airport. In the meantime, you may still go for a Kigali city tour and visit a few places like pottery projects, markets, handicraft shops, the national museum, etc. Later have lunch still in the city and drive to the airport for your flight back home.

This Gorilla Safari in Rwanda will require you to have the best recommended equipment for a gorilla trekking safari. These among others include;

  • Drinking-Water: Gorilla trekking can be very tiresome and you need to refill your tank as the trek goes on. It is advisable to park a few water filtration tablets before you come for the trek.
  • Hiking Boots: You will need good waterproof comfortable shoes. Some times it rains during the trek, so skid proof shoes can come in handy.
  • Carry a Rain Jacket/Poncho: You are advised to carry a rain jacket because if rains very often in Volcanoes National park
  • Energy Giving Snacks: You can carry light snacks that will give you some energy during the walk in the forest
  • Long-Sleeved Trouser and Shirts The forest in Volcanoes NP is covered with thick undergrowth, therefore light trousers and long-sleeved shirts are advised.
  • Wear Socks: You will have to tuck in the trousers into the socks to avoid insects crawling inside.
  • Sturdy gardening Gloves: You will need Gardening gloves because you will be grabbing tree branches, leaves, name it, and some can be thorny.
