4 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking & Golden Monkeys Safari Overview
This 4 days Rwanda gorilla trekking safari starts and ends in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital. You will require to obtain/acquire a Rwanda gorilla permit at USD1500 and a Golden Monkeys tracking permit at USD100 for this particular trip in order to be permitted to trek the gorillas and golden monkeys of the Volcanoes National Park and Virunga massifs respectively.

Safari Itinerary for the 4 Days Rwanda Gorilla Tour
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and Transfer to Volcanoes national park
On arrival at the airport, your guide from Visit and Tour Rwanda will take you on a tour of the new and vibrant capital city of Kigali. You will visit major historical sites and cultural centers as you learn about the recent history of the worldly known 1994 genocide which claimed about a million lives of Rwanda people. The city tour will also lead you to see and visit thriving markets with scenic views of the mountain terrain of Rwanda. From there, we will take the 2 hours to Rwanda’s Gorilla home, the Volcanoes National Park in Ruhengeri, Musanze.
Lying at an altitude ranging between 2400km to 4,507, this park is dominated by the setting of five volcanos after which it is named. The Volcanoes National park is famously known for the Gorilla in the Mist movie which features memorable actions of the American primatologist Dian Fossey who undertook her pioneering studies of mountain gorilla behavior and was unfortunately killed in this park and buried at the Dian Fossey graves.
Upon arrival at the park headquarters, we will check-in at the lodge as we wait to experience the thrilling gorilla trekking opportunity the next day. Day 2: Rwanda Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes national park
This is the long-awaited day! Wake up to an early breakfast at around 6:00 am and then embark on a transfer to the national park headquarters for the gorilla trekking briefing by the park rangers before hiking into the jungle for the actual trek. At around 8:00 am, you will be transferred together with your group members to the commencement point of the gorilla trekking adventure to follow specific trails into the forest in search of the allocated gorilla family.
Rwanda gorilla trek safaris take you in the deep jungles as you search for these amazing creatures. Once you locate the gorilla, you are allowed to spend up to one hour with gorillas and ensure you maintain a distance of 7 meters away from the gorillas.
Please Note: For some gorilla groups, you are expected to drive out a bit before starting the trek. You are advised to take along a porter to help with your day pack and some of your gadgets, it is easy to think that you do not need one but they can be helpful if the gorillas nested further away from your starting point.
Day 3: Optional Activities (These activities are optional and are not included in general safari quote)
On your third day of the Rwanda gorilla tour, you can choose to either go for another gorilla trekking adventure (requires payment of supplement at time of booking), or visit the golden monkeys in Volcanoes National Park or hike Mount Bisoke / Muhabura volcanos, or hike to Dian Fossey’s grave at Karisoke Research center, or even choose to do community engagement through a visit to one of local schools around the park, visit and engage in community projects, or still choose to visit the lake shores of Rwanda’s Twin Lakes, Bulera and Ruhondo.
Day 4: Transfer for Kigali City Tour, Flight Departure
After breakfast early in the morning, you will also take a 2 hours drive to Kigali. On reaching the beautiful Kigali, you will go for a city tour visiting several centers of the historical and cultural background of Rwanda, visit the local markets of Nyamirambo market, for example, handicraft shops, the Franco-Rwandan cultural center, and the genocide memorial. After the city tour, you will have lunch and then Transfer to the airport for your final flight departures.

- Warm clothing is advised especially the evenings and morning are chilly.
- Bring water along on your trek, eating, drinking and smoking near the gorillas is forbidden – designated time and place will be communicated by your ranger guide.
- Photography is permitted, although you must not use flash.
- Porters are available to help you carry your day pack for a small charge.
- Mountain gorillas live at high altitude and this may cause difficulties for some visitors. You should pace yourself, walk slowly and drink plenty of water.
