8 Days Best of Rwanda Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali, Rwanda
On arrival, you will meet with our tour guide at the airport who will transfer you to your booked hotel for a brief rest from the long journey as you get briefed about the whole itinerary highlights of your 8 Days best of Rwanda Safari. You will also have a brief introduction of Rwanda as a country, and have the basic safari travel tips and guidelines to an amazing holiday in Rwanda.
Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park
On our second day of the tour, we shall start our journey from Kigali City early in the morning driving southwards in a scenic route to Nyungwe Forest National Park. You will have brief stopovers en route and a special visit to the King’s Palace at Nyanza, visit and tour the National Museum at Butare before breaking off for lunch. Our journey to the Nyungwe Forest park will proceed afterward and by late afternoon, you will check in at Nyungwe Forest Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Nyungwe Forest Chimpanzee Tracking and Canopy Walk
Wake up to an early cup of coffee and breakfast. Pick up your lunch boxes and transfer to the park headquarters for registration and attend to a briefing about the chimpanzee tracking activity. After the briefing, you will set off for the primates walk searching for the Chimpanzees with amazing experience of over 13 primates resident in this forest and over 280 bird species, tree species, insects and reptiles. The third day of your 8 Days Best of Rwanda safari will end with a Nyungwe tree canopy walk that gives you the best of Rwanda with amazing and beautiful scenic views of the Land of Thousand Hills just from the canopy at about 400 meters from the ground.
Day 4: Colobus Monkey tracking, transfer to Kibuye
After a cup of coffee and a sumptuous breakfast in the morning, our fourth day will allow us to explore Nyungwe forest in detail, this time with special emphasis to look out for the colobus monkeys resident in here. The forest is as well gifted with a lot of wildlife underneath that the ranger guides will help identify and interpret for you. You will enjoy a picnic lunch on your Rwanda safari in the forest. Later, we will transfer to Gisenyi a lakeside town on the shores of Lake Kivu where the cool breezes of the lake will rejuvenate your forest fatigue.
Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Enjoy your morning at the lake shores of Lak Kivu with bright sunshine shower and relaxation at the lakeside before breakfast mesmerized by the melody sounds of the birds surrounding the shores. You will take a boat ride on the lake, or go for swimming activities, sport fishing, and just a lot more you can on the Lake to get the best out of your Rwanda safari experiences. After lunch in the afternoon, we shall transfer to Volcanoes National Park, arriving in the evening to check in at either Mountain Gorilla View Lodge or Kinigi Guesthouse for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Mountain Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park
For every enthusiastic tourist, the climax of the Rwanda safari is when you finally wake up to a day of gorilla trekking in the misty highlands of Volcanoes National park. You will on this day wake up to a cup of coffee and energetic breakfast and pack your lunch to drive to the park headquarters in Kinigi for the briefing and gorilla tracking formalities. You will then hike into the jungles of the thick forests of this park searching for the gorilla family allocated ascending up to 7,000 ft in some areas depending on the location of the gorilla group assigned.
The Rwanda gorilla trekking experience is a bit challenging though not as hard as it is in Uganda. This experience is very overwhelming, highly entertaining, and exciting exercise as you take on trails through the forest jungles. The trek for gorillas can last anywhere between 1-7 hours until you meet with the mighty giants of the mountains. After the trek in the afternoon, you will take the Iby’Iwacu cultural village walk with a chance to interact with the cheerful, welcoming Rwandan people and share wonderful everyday life experiences.
Day 7: Transfer to Akagera National Park
This is your second last day of the 8 Days Best of Rwanda safari. We hope you had a wonderful experience last night in the jungles with the gorillas. On this day, wake up to an early breakfast and drive towards Kigali for a brief city tour visiting the Genocide Memorial Centre in Gisozi and have lunch before getting on a scenic drive towards Akagera National park in the east arriving late in the afternoon to check in at Akagera Game Lodge or Ruzizi tented camp. You will do an evening game drive to increase your number of wildlife views on your Rwanda safari.
Day 8: Morning game drive, boat cruise and return to Kigali
Waking to the hooting sounds of the game in Akagera National Park, you will enjoy a tasty breakfast take and embark on a safari game drive in the park with a ranger guide driving through the plain grasslands viewing the game in here such as the newly introduced lions, leopards, elephants, buffalos, elands, many other mammal and bird species. Later after lunch, you will have an exciting boat cruise on Lake Ihema to tour the best of Rwanda water wildlife species before a journey transfer to Kigali for your evening outbound flight to mark the end of your 8 Days Best of Rwanda Safari.
