7 Days Uganda Gorillas and Wildlife Safari Itinerary Details

Day 1: Arrival in Kampala, Transfer to Kibale National Park

Wake up very early in the morning and have breakfast at your lodge/hotel as you get prepared for the commencement of your 7 Days Uganda gorillas and wildlife safari. Our driver/guide will pick you up and then start a long-hours journey to Kibale National park in the western part of Uganda. Passing via the Albertine escarpments of Lake Albert, you will have scenic views of the lake and then a stopover in Hoima/Fortportal to enjoy your lunch and take an hour journey break with the local communities.

After here, we shall then proceed our journey towards the park navigating through the traditional villages with precious scenic vegetation cover allowing you to have a good time and also take some photos before arriving at the park headquarters. After successfully checking in at the park and booking your lodge, you will visit the scenic crater lakes region and get a chance to check out the terraced tea estates in Kibale hillsides before retiring for dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale National Park

Early in the morning after taking breakfast, you assemble at the park headquarters to be briefed about the chimpanzee tracking activity. Your search and hike for the chimpanzees starts at about 8:00 am in the morning via the Kanyanchu primates walk.  You will enjoy the trek for chimpanzees as you get a chance to also see many other primate species such as the L’Hoest’s monkeys, golden monkeys, Black & white colobus monkeys, grey checked Mangabey, red-tailed monkeys, the bush babies, and many bird species which include; green breasted pitta, rumped tinkerbird, yellow spotted nicator till you finally meet the chimpanzees (also dubbed as man’s cousin since they share 98% of their DNA with humans).

The chimps are located by simply listening for their pant hooting calls, and then head to the place from which they replied. Here you can observe them as they feed, play as well as socializing with each other. Kibale park is one of the great rain forests in Africa with the largest community of chimpanzees ranging between 50-100 in each group. In the group, the adult males dominate the group and provide protection to the territory against the rest of the males from other territories.

Later in the afternoon after the primates walk, you will visit Bigodi swamp for birdwatching experiences and an additional primates watch. You will enjoy many bird species here including; the great blue turaco, and many more, the other primate species to view here include; the baboons, mongoose, otters, bush pigs as well as the bushbucks. Retire for dinner and overnight later in the day.

Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Early in the morning after breakfast, we drive directly to Queen Elizabeth National park a drive which takes us about 3-4 hours arriving in time at the park headquarters to check at the lodge for a delicious meal (lunch) and then later embark on an afternoon game drive where you are able to see a variety of wildlife game including; the elephants, lions, buffalos, kobs, antelopes, giraffes and many more.

Day 4: Game Drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park

12 days Uganda Rwanda gorillaWaking up so early in the morning, this day will allow us to have a morning game drive to view the early morning risers in Kasenyi track, getting a chance to view the game in here including; lions, elephants, solitary buffaloes, kobs, antelopes, etc. these animals can be view at a closer range.

Return to the lodge for breakfast and lunch as you prepare to enjoy a boat cruise along the Kazinga channel, were your eyes will be fed with a variety of water animals and birds. The wildlife species include; the crocodiles, hippos, buffaloes, pink-backed pelicans, saddle billed stork, the malachite kingfishers. After, return to the lodge for your dinner and overnight. Queen Elizabeth is mainly famous for the many wildlife species and the Kazinga channel which connects Lake George and Lake Edward. The park covers an area of 767 sq. miles and the park is also home to many bird species as well as crater lakes. After the game drive, return to your lodge for an overnight and dinner.

Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Park

Wake up early in the morning as usual, then drive towards the southern sector of Ishasha with amazing views of the tree climbing lions of Queen Elizabeth before crossing over to the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.  On your arrival at the park, check in at the lodge, enjoy lunch and after proceed for a community and cultural visits in the local nearby villages to allow you interact with the locals to have a true safari experience in the African way.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Park

12 days Uganda Rwanda gorillaHave breakfast early in the morning, proceed to the park headquarters for a pre-gorilla trekking briefing in Bwindi as you will understand the crucial Dos and Don’ts of the activity. The park rangers will then accompany you to start your search for the gorillas, a walk which can sometimes be strenuous and requires a certain level of physical fitness. We highly recommend that you carry along with you a rain jacket since the forest is a tropical one and it rains almost daily.

On sighting the gorillas, the rangers will guide you on how to behave before them, especially by giving them a 6-meter distance as you enjoy them play around. After your trek, return to the lodge for your lunch and in the afternoon, you may opt to visit the Batwa community to enjoy some cultural performances before retiring at your lodge.

Day 7: Transfer Back to Kampala

After having breakfast in the morning, start your journey back to Kampala with an optional stopover at the equator for photographic moments and another stopover at the Igongo Cultural center for an African lunch buffet. You might also opt to visit the museum here and after proceed to Kampala reaching late afternoon. That will mark the end of you 7 Days Uganda gorillas and Wildlife Safari.
